Bandwidth provisioning in ADSL access networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider an ADSL access network consisting of subscribers, DSLAMs, metro Ethernet switches and a broadband remote access aggregation server (BRAS). We obtain expressions for dimensioning the access network in the upstream direction. Specifically, we show that the bandwidth required at each DSLAM, metro Ethernet switch, and BRAS can be expressed as an exponential function of the subscribers in a log scale when the number of subscribers does not surpass a certain value. After this value, it grows linearly as a function of the subscribers.

ATM over ADSL: The “Best-Effort” PVC Provisioning for ATM Call Flow
Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) is the latest copper-wire access technology that has the capability to deliver data rate up to 8 Mbps in downstream and up to 640 kbps in upstream. The ADSL Forum has also defined the model for ADSL/ATM connections. ADSL can be connected to ATM core network through the access network called digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM). This paper ...
متن کاملService Provisioning in an ATM-over-ADSL Access Network
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Loop (ADSL) technology is a new platform for delivering broadband services to homes and small businesses, thus bringing the information highway to the mass market. Successful deployment of an ADSL-based access network is not only a matter of delivering faster rates, but also offering solutions that are cost-effective and easy to use and to manage. As deregulation a...
متن کاملQoS Provisioning for Mobile IP Users
In wireless access networks bandwidth is a limited resource. Therefore, Mobile IP users will demand to receive QoS support. However, in a highly dynamic environment — as mobile environments — QoS provisioning is a difficult task. In this paper we propose a signaling protocol for mobile users to contact a bandwidth broker for negotiation QoS for a flow. This protocol can also be used for negotia...
متن کاملSpeed Measurements of Residential Internet Access
The spread of residential broadband Internet access is raising the question of how to measure Internet speed. We argue that available bandwidth is a key metric of access link speed. Unfortunately, the performance of available bandwidth estimation tools has rarely been tested from hosts connected to residential networks. This paper compares the accuracy and overhead of state-of-the-art available...
متن کاملHigh Speed Design Of Adsl Using Modified Split Radix Algorithm
In telecommunication, the DSL is widely understood as ADSL. In ADSL, „A‟ stands for Asynchronous” which means that the data stream are not going at the same data rate. Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a high speed internet access over an existing telephone line. To increase the spectral efficiency of the available bandwidth, ADSL provides services for customers to receive internet a...
